Seeing the destruction of Grenfell Tower and witnessing the community response in absence of official support was the starting point for the project Blank History.
A film, shot in London and the artist’s birthplace in County Kerry, which looks at how people from immigrant or postcolonial cultures experience loss.
The lack of biographical detail in Don McCullin’s portrait of a homeless Irishman is mixed with the anonymous expressions from immigrant love letters in response to the Grenfell tragedy, and the theme of how loss may become resistance is explored.
The film is accompanied by discussion with Q&A on the subjects raised. The artist will be joined in discussion by invited guest.
