The Island A musical, mind-expanding adventure on the day before Brexit Day. Quirky, one-of-kind singer Ada Milea joins with the Balanescu Quartet – one of the most acclaimed contemporary string quartets in the world – to perform their mini-opera, “The Island”, based on the work of surrealist Gellu Naum and inspired by Robinson Crusoe (celebrating its 300th anniversary this year). Exploring themes of love, fidelity, betrayal, loneliness and the healing power of fantasy, Crusoe meets a host of characters from pirates and parrots to aggressive grannies. “The Island” is in English, and Ada will also perform songs in Romanian.

Alexander Balanescu violin, James Shenton violin, Helen Kamminga viola, Nicholas Holland cello.

Ada Milea is Romania’s own best-kept secret… touching, funny – both innocent and knowing – and like nothing else.
