This July, #BecauseWe’veRead are throwing it back to the very first book that launched BWR internationally. Join them for tea, coffee, doughnuts and a discussion of Assata Shakur’s Autobiography. Whether you manage to read the whole book or a few pages, everyone is welcome!

‘“It is our duty to fight for our freedom.
It is our duty to win.
We must love each other and support each other.
We have nothing to lose but our chains.” – Assata Shakur

#BecauseWeveRead is an international radical reading club designed to raise our collective understanding of politics, race, gender, colonialism and challenge the way we see the world. We aim to uplift and celebrate stories of those whose identities are marginalised and whose voices are silenced; and to make ourselves think differently about the world. Some of us will realise we are in chains and others will realise that they are holding them.
