London is a city that is in constant flux. Migration, urban regeneration, housing crisis, climate change, are just some of the major factors contributing to the social make-up of London and contributing to migration across the city. The city’s creative communities are regularly relocating due to these social, political and economic factors. Their journeys across the city has had a powerful effect on the formation of identities, narratives and histories in different parts of London.
On Saturday 28 September, Rich Mix is relocating to the Design Museum East for an evening of performances at the Design Museum as part of new kid on the block Emerge Festival. East to West: Mapping Journeys Across London, will be a poetic and musical melting pot featuring “a spicier version of the Vagina Monologues” – The Masala Monologues; jazz-infused electronica heavyweights, The Ishmael Ensemble and underground poetry collective WorkinOnIt.
The electronica heavyweights Ishmael Ensemble have been making big moves recently with their debt album. ‘A State Of Flow’. Be ready to experience hypnotic sounds of Jazz, electronics and some psychedelic dub. They are looking to light up The Design Museum on Saturday!
A wonderful concoction of London-based poets, performers, actors, comedians, directors, MCs & DJs are brought to The Design Museum to explore issues like crossing cultures, movement and migration. This a-star line up will include poet Mr Gee who makes you tap into your creative side and explore the words that you write.
Gathering stories from the Asian sisterhood, Masala Monologues aims to put a spotlight on under-represented British Asian Experiences. Making an impact in the press recently, Masala Monologue joins us at The Design Museum to perform a theatrical performance exploring identity, migration and sisterhood.
Very well known for his dubstep nights, weekly show’s on Rinse FM and recent Boiler Room set, DJ Brackles is set to get your floor vibrating on the night. He will be providing a mixture of the best UK Funky, garage, vintage 2-step and dubstep. Come down to Emerge festival and see for yourself!
Emerge is the new kid on the festival block. Over two nights in September, Emerge Festival will bring together some of London’s most electrifying talent and will see a creative kaleidoscope of events take over 11 London Boroughs. With one ticket, audiences will have access to all the night’s venues and some of the best breakthrough artists in town. Their stage? Dozens of the capital’s iconic buildings from Tower Bridge’s glass walkway to The Design Museum’s paraboloid hall.
