Soundhoppers & Arthoppers present
Sunday 26 February
In a nutshell
A special, free event where sound-art-making and visual-art-making come together.
SoundHoppers is a sound exploration playgroup with the aim of encouraging deep listening via gamified exercises, and exploring various creative possibilities with the medium of sound.
Art Hoppers deliver gallery quality art programmes to early years, primary school children and their families in both educational settings and public spaces.
What brings these two organisations together is the attentive approach they each have toward their creative fields: sound art and visual art: listening and looking. For SoundHoppers the focus is less on ‘music-making’ and instead focuses on the wider creative possibilities with sound. For Art Hoppers the focus will be less on formal brush strokes and more focus on mark-making. The key to both groups is inventive play within the mediums!
What to Expect
The SoundHopper session will start at 11am and finish at 12:30pm
Sessions start with a selection of gamified listening exercises, leading into exploring the relationship between sound and materiality, and finally heading into the children making a racket using a selection of micro-synths and specially created noise generating devices
The Art Hopper session will start at 1.30pm and finish at 3pm
Return to a room full of materials; cardboard, pens, pencils, tape and a giant roll of paper. The challenge: To explore new, exciting ways of making marks on paper. Create a simple drawing devise to wear or manipulate! Apply your imagination in making and your bodies in the marking. The resulting marks will be distinctly your own.
The event will conclude with a combined sound and visual session starting at 3pm finishing at 3:30pm
