WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?
Adapted from the play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue, Barry Jenkins tells the story of shy boy who discovers his sexual identity growing up in a troubled part of Miami.
TELL ME MORE (DON’T WORRY, NO SPOILERS)
A young African American called Chiron (Ashton Sanders) struggles to make sense of his identity and sexuality as he grows up in a troubled Miami community that has zero tolerance for homosexuality. Brutally bullied at school, and receiving a mixed upbringing at home, Chiron turns to a local drug dealer as he builds an increasingly toxic masculinity to combat these oppressive forces. Drawing on Tarell Alvin McCraney’s deeply personal play, Barry Jenkins’ adaptation has already won the Golden Globes award for Best Drama and is being hailed by critics as “a thrilling, deeply necessary” cinematic piece.
