About the film:
Working from Jonathan Ames’ gripping 2013 novel, Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin) makes her highly anticipated return with a stark inversion of the noir thriller.
Lead actor Joaquin Phoenix (Her) gives a rage-fuelled, Cannes-winning performance as a brutal and tormented Gulf War veteran turned killer-for-hire, who specialises in saving victims from child sex rings.
When a US senator’s daughter is kidnapped, he is contracted to dispense with the perpetrators and save the girl (Ekaterina Samsonov), but his mission causes him to unleash a maelstrom of violence that ultimately takes him deeper into a hallucinatory darkness.
