Be the first to witness the soon-to-be global stars of hip hop when long-time Rich Mix artist Lemzi hosts Hidden Gems Live as part of Emerge Festival – a two-day celebration of London’s best venues and electrifying emerging talent. Day two of Emerge Festival sees Rich Mix migrate West to curate an evening at the Design Museum. East to West: Creative Journeys Across London will be a poetic and musical melting pot featuring “a spicier version of the Vagina Monologues” – The Masala Monologues; jazz-infused electronica heavyweights The Ismael Ensemble; and underground poetry collective Workinonit.
How does the digital age affect our everyday lives? Who are the modern-day disrupters taking up space? How do we curate our online lives? Underwire Film Festival, UK’s largest film festival celebrating female talent, presents a series of shorts and premieres tackling these questions and more.
Drawing on the universal nightmare of being chased, Canadian artist Ming Hon brings acclaimed live dance performance Chase Scenes to Rich Mix which features masterful manipulation of live feed cameras, projections and movie stitching. Digital and dance collide again in Pell Ensemble’s Upload / Unplug – a live gaming experience where your choices become data, uploaded to shape a new human being.
From digital to analogue (after all, sometimes the best fun to be had is with a pencil in hand) we host The Big Draw – the world’s largest drawing festival.
Theatre-makers from all over Europe as well as Canada and Cuba come together at Rich Mix for Voila! Europe Festival – a border-busting mix of multicultural, multilingual, and multidisciplinary performance. We also welcome European experimental musicians at Electronica: Vision of Sound where projections on floating balloons will elevate the live experience. New music, movement and imagery whirl together in Everywhen, an intermedial performance on history’s endless rotation. We’re proud to be a home to London’s burgeoning new breed of genre-blind jazz artists as we welcome a whole host of bands from Iraq, Iran, Algeria, Egypt and Turkey as part of EFG London Jazz Festival.
Experience an immersive adventure around Brick Lane, as we take spoken word out onto our neighbouring streets with Coney, Tamasha Digital and Rightful Place Theatre Company in We are Shadows: Brick Lane. Co-created by Bengali women and students from Mulberry Schools Trust, the journey will turn familiar streets into a magical-realist feast.
In support of artists that push boundaries, we’re hosting an exhibition by London multimedia artist Thomas Webb, winner of the Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize in New Media for a 6-week long exhibition in our Mezzanine Gallery. If experiencing digital culture is not enough for you then join us for ArtFutura – a day of talks, exhibitions, interactive installations and more, exploring the most interesting projects and ideas in the realm of new media and virtual reality. Rounding off our season, ArtFutura giving us moment for pause to reflect on all the artists we’ve invited to the Rich Mix playground this autumn.
