About In Living Memory Exhibition
Stories of struggle, resistance and connection from East London.
What can we learn from the people who organised, resisted and built community before us?
In Living Memory brings together stories, photographs, objects and oral histories from generations of East Londoners, exploring the struggles they faced, the communities they built, and the ways they organised for change.
East London also has a long history of anti-racist and anti-fascist organising. From street-level resistance and community defence to the everyday work of building spaces of solidarity, generations of local people have challenged racism, fascism and the structures that enable them. This exhibition explores these histories alongside the ordinary acts of care, connection and collective organising through which East London communities have resisted violence and imagined different ways of living together.
Created by seven East London researchers in collaboration with Rich Mix, Queen Mary University of London, and a network of local organisers, historians and community leaders, the project connects past and present through conversations across generations.
Discover stories that might otherwise be lost, hear directly from people who lived them, and explore what their experiences can teach us today.
The exhibition will run from Fri 2 Oct – Mon 14 Dec.
We will be hosting a Community Day Event on Sun 11 Oct, featuring food, workshops, and a chance to connect with the community through the project. Tickets also FREE, available HERE.
