After a successful first year of our free After School Club, a strand of our Flip the Script programme introduced for the 22/23 school year, we were absolutely delighted to continue the sessions into 23/24!

Over the course of 24 sessions spread out over the school year, pupils from Virginia Primary School in Tower Hamlets experimented with different film-making techniques, flexing their creative muscles in a fun and collaborative group.

When I watch movies, I always think I want to do it myself, so that’s what I like (about After School Club)

Being many of the pupils first venture into film-making, in the sessions the children got stuck into learning how to use green screen, create their own soundscapes, add voiceovers to their hand-made stop motion films, and develop core film-making skills, including filming and editing.

As well as channelling their inner Scorsese’s and Gerwig’s, the pupils developed transferable skills, using drama techniques such as improvisation and storytelling to build confidence, self esteem and practice their presentation skills.

We go on this mini adventure out of school, we introduce ourselves, we express how we’re feeling… we just have a really fun time here

I learnt to edit with iMovie – I’d never used it before
