SPECIAL GUEST UPDATE: AMBIKA MOD

Cinema for Gaza and MAP are delighted to welcome award-winning filmmaker Mahdi Fleifel to Rich Mix for a screening of two of his films, followed by a Q&A with Mahdi hosted by special guest Ambika Mod (One Day, This is Going to Hurt).

Following the Cinema for Gaza auction earlier this year, which raised over £250,000 for Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP), the organisations are teaming up once more for an evening of films, falafel and sweet tea to raise urgent funds for medical services in the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon.

A World Not Ours (2012, 93 mins), Dir. Mahdi Fleifel
Filmmaker Mahdi Fleifel grew up in a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon, Ein el-Hilweh. Even after his immediate family moved to Dubai then Denmark, he spent summer holidays there, filming everything, especially during World Cup years. Intimate footage recorded across a lifetime captures the anecdotal charm of wonderful characters — not least Mahdi’s grandfather. A shared longing to return home emerges amid the gentle rhythms of daily life.

I Signed The Petition (2018, 10 min), Dir. Mahdi Fleifel
A conversation between two friends about the effectiveness and implications of publicly supporting the cultural boycott of Israel. One friend is wracked with worry having signed a petition asking Radiohead not to play Tel Aviv, the other is more sanguine.

A limited number of tickets will be put up for auction via the Cinema for Gaza x MAP Givergy page for those who wish to make a more generous donation than the price of a standard ticket. There will also be the opportunity to buy C4G and MAP merchandise.

ABOUT CINEMA FOR GAZA
Cinema for Gaza was founded by six women in the UK film industry in early 2024 to raise funds and awareness for humanitarian aid in Gaza. Earlier this year, the initiative held an auction raising over £250,000 for Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP). The auction featured exclusive film memorabilia, artwork, and experiences donated by high-profile figures in the entertainment industry, including Jonathan Glazer, Annie Lennox, Susan Sarandon and more.

ABOUT MEDICAL AID FOR PALESTINIANS
MAP works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. They provide immediate medical aid to those in great need, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system. They are currently responding to the emergency in Gaza and Lebanon.
