LSFF’s annual show that celebrates animators from across the world has a little bit of everything – from episodes that reflect the absurdity of modern life to ones that speak the unspeakable through twisted lines and fields of colour. This animation programme contains works that manifest heavy themes such as fear, death, and resistance, but also nuanced ones that revolve around the ideas of fluidity, growth, and boredom.
A lighthearted symphony of colourful downhill skiers, a fish-person navigating human social codes, a 1940s gay bar and its mysterious owner, a cubical maze surveilled by giants, a world of ennui flooded by hapless waiting. Prepare for a bizarre forest where lonely villagers cohabit with a monster that hunts for dogs, and doomsday video diaries made by miniature humans left to fend for themselves.
