This inclusive event is all about celebrating creativity and shining a light on the vital contributions of Deaf, Disabled, and neurodivergent playwrights. Here’s what we have in store for Saturday:
10:30am – Doors open
11:00am – We’ll kick things off with a warm welcome and an introduction
11:25am – Enjoy a presentation by Chloe Vollenweider, where she’ll delve into Graeae’s history of new writing and examine how new playwrights have responded in times of crisis
12:00pm – Experience three specially commissioned short plays for the festival: Big Dog, Haunted Meat and My Night with El** Mu**. Written by Madeleine Farnhill, Jordon Grant and Jesse Stone. Directed by Jenny Sealey OBE and Nickie Miles-Wildin.
1:05pm – Break for lunch
2:30pm – Welcome back from lunch!
2:30pm – Listen to ten, one-minute pitches from Graeae’s network of talented disabled writers
2:40pm – Join our panel discussion, ‘Is Playwriting in Crisis?’ featuring Stephanie Bain, Almeida’s Head of Programming and Literary, as we explore how programmers and commissioners can nurture innovative works during challenging times. Additional panellists will be announced soon.
3:40pm – Network with us! Access support workers, BSL interpreters, and Graeae staff ready to assist Deaf, Disabled, and neurodivergent writers in connecting with industry professionals.
5:30pm – Don’t miss a rehearsed reading of Jinnity, a full-length play by Shahid Iqbal Khan (Offies-finalist and Olivier Award-nominee), directed by Milli Bhatia.
7:30pm – Wind down with drinks and say your farewells!
