Exploring the theme of broken love between two brothers, Michael J. Long’s acclaimed feature Baby Brother tells the story of Adam and his vulnerable younger brother Liam, across two separate days, five years apart.
Adam is seen as a troublemaker by his mother, who resents him. He spends his mornings cutting the grass of an old lady to save money and dreams of escaping the grasp of an alcoholic stepfather and cocaine addicted mother – until he is forced to pay off their debts.
Five years on and Adam returns, desperate to spend one more day with his best friend, his baby brother Liam, but things aren’t the same as his past traumas travel home with him.
Already critically acclaimed by The Hollywood Reporter and officially selected by BUFF in 2024, Baby Brother is a working class Liverpool story with unique characters and stories that will engage audiences young and old.
The film is presented alongside two short films:
IT COULD BE YOU – DIR. LEE D. BARNES
Following Tay, a resilient teen, as her life intertwines with Debbie, a middle-class woman consumed by an unexpected obsession, this darkly amusing short film explores the complexities of their connection.
ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS – DIR. FRANZ BÖHM
Based on a true story – A father and son running a makeshift hospital on the front line of war, face a tough decision when a platoon of Russian soldiers approaches their building. They must find a way to protect both their patients and themselves.
This screening is followed by a Q&A with attending filmmakers.
