As an internally displaced person and later a refugee, Zekarias bravely traverses the sweltering deserts of Sinai and the Sahara, confronting perilous situations along the way. Zekarias’s story sheds light on the universal struggles faced by refugees worldwide, including poverty, unemployment, transnational border issues, and severe human rights abuses such as rape, torture, kidnapping, extortion, human trafficking, and mistreatment in prison.
