The #ArtsKickers Awards uncovers, rewards and connects people who are creating pathways for disadvantaged communities into the arts world. Founded in 2017 by arts activist Angie Gough, supporting work across east London and beyond. The awards scheme is also a platform to support emerging talent on their journey.

Across eight award categories profiling and celebrating the great people out there working hard to bridge that participation gap.

In Hackney alone (the borough we live in) 41% of kids live in poverty. We know for a fact that there’s a real disconnect between those who get to benefit from arts participation and those who don’t.

Tracy Barbe, our Schools & Outreach Officer, was nominated in the ‘Special Projects & People’s Choice’ category for the Dramatic Discoveries project she lead in collaboration with Art Hoppers, Thomas Buxton Primary School and Museum of London Archeology, as part of PLAY-HOUSE, our free Easter 2018 family friendly weekend. The project engaged year 5 pupils with the theatrical histories of the area and encouraged discovery and creativity, culminating in an exhibition of the work during PLAY-HOUSE.

Rich Mix’s Learning and Participation programme is at its best; working in partnership, devising educational projects that make sense to both children and their teachers, delivering and enhancing the creative and core curriculums by bringing together a range of professionals & people in the community.
