Astra acted fearlessly against the backdrop of an oppressive Soviet regime, being convinced that Latvia would one day be free again from the Soviet occupation. His iconic phrase “I believe that this time will pass like an evil nightmare,” became a guiding collective motive in Latvia and a source of strength during the fight to regain freedom. Astra stood firmly against the regime and boldly said what others dared not.

The film confronts us with important questions: am I ready to live truthfully today, as a free person? Can we, from today’s perspective, evaluate what it meant to sacrifice personal well-being for the sake of ideas during the period of Soviet occupation?

Don’t miss a unique opportunity to witness the remarkable story of Astra on the big screen, in this one-off UK screening.

The film will be followed by Q&A with director Liene Laviņa.
