…But after being kicked out by an adoptive mother, survival takes centre stage.

Filmed over five years, Circo follows Richard through a moment of profound transformation — navigating street life, Rio’s queer scene, and the gruelling pursuit of circus stardom, all while beginning to explore gender transition.

With no narration or easy resolutions, this is raw, intimate filmmaking at its most powerful: a stunning portrait of Black queer life in Brazil’s margins, where every dream is an act of rebellion against a world determined to erase you.
