The films explore the freedom of movement and normalise the expression of emotion through stimming – the processing of emotions in a neurotypical world.
The Stimming Pool (2024) directed by Steven Eastwood and The Neurocultures Collective (Sam Chown-Ahern, Georgia Bradburn, Benjamin Brown, Robin Elliott-Knowles, Lucy Walker) is an experimental film about what it means to be an autistic person living in a neurotypical world and how they react to ever-changing experiences and environments. LSFF are also excited to present the UK premiere of Periphery (2024) directed by Erin Le Fevre, a short film detailing the experiences of a young person with autism navigating the start of university.
Comfort and accessibility for our neurodivergent audience members are the focus of this screening, with dim lighting, a quieter sound system and a written guide to the format and running order of the event available before the screening.
The screening is also accompanied by a small exhibition of artwork made by neurodivergent artists. Further details will be provided closer to the date.
Programmed in collaboration with London College of Communication.
