With their partners, Across the Border and The New Black Film Collective, The Afroniche Society brings you a curated line up of short films by Golda Kesse, Misha Maseka, Esther Rennae-Walker, Nadia Louise Nadif and a special guest film from Dika Ofoma.

Each edition features a curated selection of diverse films, followed by interactive Q&A sessions and opportunities to network with fellow creatives, filmmakers, and members of the ANS community.

ADINKRA by Golda Kesse
Samira, a young British-Ghanaian woman’s life is disrupted when Karim, an estranged family friend burdened by secrets, suddenly reappears. The two meet in an old pub for the first time in years, where buried tensions resurface and ancestral mysteries begin to unravel.

NOTIFICATION by Nadia Louise Nadif
Newlyweds Jeremy and Norah have recently moved to Ashford, Kent, where they’re trying to start a family, guided by their friendly and punctual fertility app, Try-cycle.

IT WAS PARADISE: FROM ‘ALL THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE’ by Chihayamisha Misha
 A short-documentary revisiting collective memory, tracing a line between the identity of the past and the identity of the present. Featuring pioneer musicians of the Zamrock era (a rock and roll movement in 1970 Zambia), Emmanuel Jagari Chanda, Patrick Mwondela of the band WITCH, along with contemporary Zambian artists, creative leaders and thinkers.

LESSONS FROM MY MOTHER’S PALM by Esther-Rennae Walker
A young girl’s grief sparks a journey to uncover the truth about her origins. After the death of her Grandma, and former member of the Brixton Black Women’s group (1973-89), Dymond seeks to keep her spirit alive by knowing everything there is to know about her story.

GOD’S WIFE* – Dika Ofoma (special guest film)
A young widow, still in mourning, is propositioned by her late husband’s brother. When she refuses his advances, he threatens to have her ousted from her husband’s home. She would have to reconcile her personal convictions and Catholic belief with her in-law’s demands.

Screenings to be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, hosted by founder of The Afroniche Society Wura Ogunmowo.
