30 years after the genocide that tore apart their mothers’ worlds, a group of young Rwandans confront the family secrets and the wounds their generation is carrying. They are led by Emilienne, a therapist and genocide survivor, to try to break cycles of intergenerational trauma together.

This screening is followed by a Q&A with The Things We Don’t Say director Ornella Mutoni, chaired by Anu Henriques.
Counterpoints presents: PopChange Film Club
PopChange Film Club is a new film club presented by Counterpoints Arts that will feature a monthly film programme from filmmakers from migrant and refugee backgrounds followed by a panel discussion. The first edition of the club features two shorts exploring intergenerational trauma and its effects on family dynamics in Canada and Rwanda (respectively). They invite the audience to see the power of difficult conversations and listening to help heal familial relationships.
