Her work draws upon the visual tone of horror and fantasy to paint humorous narratives of human behaviours in an unsettling, surreal tone. Ellie works both digitally, and by hand with pen and ink.

ABOUT THE WORK:

Ellie’s work examines our insecurities and unquestioned habits, and the strange behaviour we engage in to make ourselves feel safe in an increasingly chaotic world;

“I take inspiration from my own unhelpful habits and embarrassing behaviours to create heightened realities wrapped in a darkly comic, unsettling tone.”

She hopes to evoke the jarring moment the screen goes blank after a TV binge and you are faced with your own reflection. This has developed into creating characters and stories that reflect the strangeness of our routine habits and insecurities. From a grotesque sofa binge watching the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills as the debris of past snacks and drinks are littered across the floor to a series of illustrations showing a surreal version of Ellie’s own experience of lockdown.
