Split into three parts, the first part presents badges created by BenWalters, using personal and classified ads from vintage magazines donated by Badge Cafe participants and organisations including Bishopsgate Institute.

Another showcases ‘found’ collages, created when Badge Cafe participants made badges using circular images cut from books and magazines.

The third part presents work created by visitors to Badge Cafe hangouts on Sunday afternoons during the exhibition’s run. Click here to find out more.

Join Ben for an informal artist’s tour at 12pm on Sun 11 Feb (no booking required).

About Badge Cafe
Badge Cafe offers space for people to relax, create and connect by reusing old books and magazines to make badges. Created and hosted by Ben Walters, it emerges from his doctoral research with performance collective Duckie on queer fun and ‘homemade mutant hope machines’.

About Ben Walters
Ben makes collages in badge form and inspired by badge making. As artist in residence at studio1.1, he collaborated with Nigel Grimmer on Collaborative Disruptions (2023) and has created work for Museum of the Home and Art Fund. Ben also works as a critic, researcher, producer and campaigner around queer space, nightlife and performance culture.
