There will be two one-hour workshops exploring the dance forms of Chaoui, Kabyle, Naili and Allaoui.

1.30–2.30pm: Chaoui Dance Workshop & Intro to Naili dance
This workshop will explore a traditional dance from one sub-group of the indigenous people of North Africa, known as the Chaouiya. Maternal and grounded, Chaoui dance is symbolic of this tribe’s respect towards the divine energy of nature and agriculture. You will also be introduced to the very much on trend Naili dance, from the Naili tribes of Algeria, known as fezāai.

2.45–3.45pm: Kabyle Dance & Intro to Allaoui dance
This class will explore the Kabyle from Northern Algeria. This dance is heavily grounded on the feet, connected to nature, and is known for its strong hip reverberations and shimmies.

We will also explore the Allaoui [ALLAWI] dance from Western Algeria – historically a warrior dance, performed by men to celebrate victory by stomping feet and shimmying shoulders.

Please bring a scarf to tie around your hips and a square scarf.
