The Grand Union Orchestra’s celebrated winter concerts at Rich Mix provide an opportunity for our young musicians to display their skills and invention, showcasing the work they have achieved during the year.

Through regular workshops, masterclasses and the Summer School, these young players (many of them second generation British-born) have been exploring a range of music and musical techniques from around the world under the guidance of GUO’s authentic experts (themselves mainly first generation migrants).

A more experienced group – the Re:Generation Band – has now emerged, and has been creating, performing and recording its own compositions inspired by these projects. Some of their pieces will be played in the concert, as well as reimagined versions of more familiar material from China, Bangladesh, South and West Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America.

In these turbulent times, it is more important than ever to bring cultural communities together, and for the younger generation to take a lead in uniting them.
