Now in its 2nd edition, STANCES (مواقف) is a multimedia & performance festival that explores and celebrates the daring visions of contemporary artists from North Africa and the diaspora. This free 3-week photography exhibition features three young photographers, distinct in style yet united in their determination to visually interpret their urban realities in subjective frames.
Blending symbolism, illustrations and studio sets, the exhibition portrays a socially dynamic North Africa where photographers in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia are turning the page on decades of reductionist western representations, by rapidly emerging as visual authors of their present and critical analysts of their past.
This edition also pays tribute to the work of Sophia Baraket, who passed away in 2018.
FEATURED ARTISTS:
Sophia Baraket (Tunisia)
Safaa Mazirh (Morocco)
Sonia Merabet (Algeria)
