Inspired by his clients in his day-job as a psychologist, Duarte’s mission is to listen to life and to keep the soul of fado real: ‘I’m married to psychology, but fado is my mistress’, he confesses.

Starting to sing fado aged 7, in 2006 Duarte won the Male Revelation Prize of the Amália Rodrigues Foundation. He communicates with the subtlest of vocal stylings, minute gestures that mean everything, and an infectious, empathetic joy, that comes from never taking himself too seriously. Despite, or because of this, Duarte is one of the most prominent male voices of a new generation of fado singers.

Performing alongside Pedro Amendoeira (Portuguese guitar) and João Filipe (guitar) for this special La Linea show. DJ Catarina plays tracks by women artists from Portugal’s alternative music scene.

A Portuguese Love Affair – Hackney Road’s Portuguese café – will be selling snacks including empanadas, rissols and pasteis de bacalhau.

Please note that the concert is seated with an interval.
