During Spring 2023 parents from Tower Hamlets primary schools; Virginia, Christchurch, William Davis, Harry Gosling, Cayley, St Paul’s and Bangabandhu worked together with artists Teresa Hare Duke and Jakia Khanom, in partnership with Tracy Barbe at Rich Mix and Sanjida Alam of Tower Hamlets Local History Library and Archives, to explore their personal stories of heritage and migration.
We investigated archival objects relating to the diversity of Tower Hamlets and the significance of the textile trade in migration histories. As we have embroidered, collaged, drawn, painted and printed we’ve gotten to know each other through sharing new skills and enjoying many universal and poignant conversations.
Learning from each others journeys, we have collectively created ‘Our Journeys’ StoryTent. Stitching together our rich and varied individual journeys but also illustrating the common threads that bind us as members of this community.
We hope you enjoy reading our shared stories. Please sit in our tent and feel inspired to tell your own journey story!
Exhibition open from 10am–10pm. Due to community events that occasionally take place in The Lab, please call our Box Office before you come to check for access.
