Faultline (2007, 31 mins) has three main starting points; Shobana’s awareness of public anxiety around young Asians – particularly men – and our fears of terrorism, Gautam Malkani’s novel Londonstani, a story about young Asian men in southwest London, and lastly a recording of a soprano voice electronically manipulated. These became structuring ideas for the piece, which uses dance, film and an atmospheric score to create a powerful insight into contemporary Britain.

Choreographed and performed exclusively for film, Duets with Automobiles (1993, 15 mins) is a site-specific work situated in the City of London in modern office blocks. The piece features three female dancers performing Contemporary Dance and Bharatanatyam, both inside and outside the buildings, set to an original score composed by Orlando Gough.
