Stolen is based on a true story. In 2012, Cornelius Gurlitt’s Munich apartment was raided by the German police force. They found and removed 1,400 pieces of Nazi art, including Picasso and Matisse worth a billion dollars.
Who did the art belong to? His father, a ‘degenerate art’ collector for Hitler? Or was it stolen from Jews fleeing Germany during World War II?
Stolen looks at Cornelius’ last days, when this fragile recluse stands before the accusing world who demand answers.
Can he save his ‘family’ – his paintings that he has lived alone with for over 40 years? What happens when the paintings come alive again?
Prav MJ founded PMJ productions to support emerging writers and actors and to stage plays that create debate and change.
Previous works include Faceless by Selina Fillinger, Sket by Maya Sondhi (Park Theatre) and The Lonely Soldier Monologues (LSM) by Helen Benedict.
These plays received public support via Kickstarter, and LSM also received Arts Council funding.
