A huge thank you to each and every person who donated, shared a post or promoted the campaign from Mar–May 2022  – your generosity and support means we’ll be able to offer free film screenings to more than 1,000 local school children in Tower Hamlets.

What is Every Child a Cinema Goer?

We are an arts centre. We are a cinema. We are a charity. We are Rich Mix.

We are passionate about film, and we believe that every child should have the opportunity to experience and appreciate professional film as an art form. Every Child a Cinema Goer is an individual giving campaign geared towards raising funds that enable us to provide free film screenings for school children in our local area.

Tower Hamlets has enormous inequalities and is the tenth most deprived Local Authority in the country. It has the highest rate of child poverty nationally (42%). The offer of these tickets, school trips and opportunity to for local schools to take part in our film education programme Pic ‘n’ Mix will be targeted at schools with the highest proportion of free school meal places or local schools not accessing local cultural or creative provision in the borough.

Who will benefit from the free tickets?

We will offer these free tickets to existing schools we work with and use this opportunity as an outreach to those in Tower Hamlets that we are yet to engage with. We’ll offer these screenings to Year Six classes, with films themed around ‘coming of age’, in the summer term before their transition into secondary school.

What is Pic ‘n’ Mix?

This support will also help us keep building our film education programme Pic ‘n’ Mix, which has been running in Tower Hamlets primary schools for the last five years, to reach even more schools and increase the number of activities we can deliver – engaging more children in film and cultural activity, giving them more access to the arts, and improving their learning, aspirations and wellbeing.
