Rich Mix was founded as a direct response to decades of political and cultural polarisation in East London to promote equality through arts and culture, and to stand firmly against racial discrimination. We are a space where communities can come together to create, debate and share their cultures.
The rise of the far right is creating a climate of fear and division that directly affects our communities. Our staff and the people we support face increased threats to their safety and wellbeing as this harmful rhetoric escalates.
Our founding objectives are clear: to support marginalised communities, particularly those facing racial inequity, to promote intercultural understanding, eliminate racial discrimination, and foster equality of opportunity through arts and culture.
This work continues today, and it matters more than ever. With a vibrant cultural programme, Rich Mix remains committed to creating spaces for connection, celebration, and solidarity — standing against racism, xenophobia, and anti-migrant hate.
Today we are proud to announce a new oral histories project that will honour and support East London’s long history of anti-racist activism. ‘In Living Memory: Archiving, Learning and Mobilising against Racism in East London’ is delivered in partnership with Queen Mary University of London.
