About you: “We run music projects with people in prison, former-prisoners and marginalised young people; creating original music collaboratively has a powerful positive impact on people’s lives, bringing new confidence, important transferable skills and raised aspirations for the future. Music can break down barriers and help people who have found themselves on the fringes of society to become celebrated and valued members of the community.”

Favourite thing about being at Rich Mix: “There are many great things about being part of such a creative community, particularly having wonderful neighbours like Drake Music and many other inspirational organisations, bringing opportunities for learning, sharing and collaboration. And it’s been very special when we’ve been able to use Rich Mix performance spaces for projects.”

Kids in Museums

Rich Mix Residents since: 2021

About you: “Kids in Museums is a charity dedicated to making museums open and welcoming to all children, young people and families.

We champion family friendly organisations through a wide range of initiatives, including our annual Family Friendly Museum Award, celebrating the best days out for families.

On Takeover Day, we encourage museums, galleries, heritage sites and cultural organisations to let young people take over adults’ jobs for the day. We also have a Digital Takeover Day, where young people take over museums’ social media accounts and digital content for the day.

Underpinning all our work is our Kids in Museums Manifesto, a set of guidelines created with children, young people and families on what makes a great museum visit for everyone.

We also provide a range of training, consultancy and resources to support museum staff.”

Favourite thing about being at Rich Mix: “It is great to be in such a vibrant part of London and to work somewhere that is a centre of creativity.”

London Youth Choirs

Rich Mix Residents since: 2019

About you: “We run eight choirs a week across London (soon to be nine!) for young people from school year 3 to age 23. We provide excellent training and performance opportunities, and we support every member to develop their knowledge, aspirations, confidence, empathy and character – and a lifelong love of singing and music.

We exist for all of London’s young singers. Our citywide vision has always promised to deliver two things: musical excellence and social change. We work to remove barriers to access to ensure that everyone can take part.”

Favourite thing about being at Rich Mix: “The sheer range of amazing work that is taking place all around the building. We work in the choral music industry with children and young people, but I’m aware that there are organisations working with other kinds of music, as well as dance, theatre, museums and circus! It’s incredible to think of all of the different skill sets and passionate people in this building that are reaching so many people in different locations with their work, and really want to bring opportunities and life-changing experiences to others. It’s really inspiring to be a part of such a community.”

Sound Connections

Rich Mix Residents since: 2006

About you: “Sound Connections is a music-focused sector support organisation championing inclusion, access and social justice. Our vision is that all children and young people aged 0-25 can access high quality music-making. We are Youth Music’s strategic partner for London and we’re a founder member of the Alliance for a Musically Inclusive England (AMIE).

There are three strands to our work:

  • Wired4Music: the network for musically-minded Londoners age 16-25. Through Wired4Music we support young creatives to build a career in the creative industries. Wired4Music is also about amplifying the voices of young people, and involving them in decision making and advocacy.
  • Training and professional development: we provide training workshops, mentoring and funding for anyone working with young people through music.
  • Sector development and organisational change: through research and thought leadership we catalyse change and make the music sector more inclusive, diverse and equitable.

We also provide consultancy to music, arts and heritage organisations in London, the UK and internationally. Our consultancy expertise include research, evaluation, youth voice and strategy.”

Favourite thing about being at Rich Mix: “We were one of the very first organisations to move into Rich Mix when it opened in 2006! We love being around other creative people, charities and businesses. Because our work is all about having a positive impact on the community, it’s important that we’re based in a venue that is so strongly rooted in the local community.”
