This memory is effectively ongoing as it is based on her family’s love for this fruit and their involvement in the business in Palestine today.
Areej Kaoud’s performance is partially sung, stemming from her background as a Palestinian who grew up in Sharjah, UAE, and Montreal, Canada.
Ya Balah Zaghloul “Dates” song was first sung by Naima El-Masreya (AKA Naima the Egyptian) in 1920s, and was composed by Egyptian composer Sayed Darwish (1892-1923) who was considered as the father of Egyptian popular music.
Kaoud is now based in London and this will be her first performance in the city, supported by AWAN Festival and produced by Arts Canteen.
The performance is in English.
