This bold, cross-genre programme moves from the angular to the ecstatic over the course of three sets.

Jazz composer Byron Wallen leads an eight-piece band performing new work for Peter Shenai’s Hurricane Bells. Shenai, an artist, used analyses of Hurricane Katrina’s structure to cast five bronze bells. When struck in order, their descending tones indicate the growing power of the storm. Taking these unique sonorities as a starting point, Wallen’s suite reflects on the tragedy, taking in the culture of New Orleans and the climate crisis that threatens ever larger storms.

The line-up:

Top classical musicians will play extravagant, soloistic music by composer Liza Lim that embraces concepts from Viking and Aboriginal Australian traditions.

Petit Oiseau, a duo that brings together rare classical Indian string instruments with a custom software modular synthesiser. After their inaugural 2012 performance at Tate Modern’s Tanks with NTS Radio, the eclectic duo was formed by painter and multi-instrumentalist Jatinder Singh Durhailay and experimental sound artist Suren Seneviratne a.k.a My Panda Shall Fly. Their debut album, including a publication and accompanying CD, was released by Poetic Pastel Press in late 2019.
