Join us for this special, intimate premiere screening of the film, alongside a conversation with director Ruth Sutoyé and the featured family, moderated by producer and programmer Marcelle Akita.

Directed by visual artist and producer Ruth Sutoyé, with poetry from acclaimed Zimbabwean-born poet Belinda Zhawi and an accompanying score by music producer ReiSky, Matriarch’s Garden pays homage to the legacy of the matriarch, the use of food, movement and nature as vehicles of connection, and highlights the triune form of cross-generational love.

Matriarch’s Garden sits within Before Them, We – a multidisciplinary intergenerational project curated by Natalie Fiawoo and produced by Ruth Sutoyé and Tobi Kyeremateng. Before Them, We features a poetry anthology to be published by Flipped Eye Publishing, a series of talks and workshops, and an exhibition showcased at the Black Cultural Archives from 12 Aug – 18 Sept 2021.
