A searing examination of the tender violence that pools in all our states of wanting; from our intimacies to our uprisings. It examines longing as a type of grief – in politics, family, romance and mortality.

Using powerful imagery, narrative, the dinner table and the gods, the poems in this collection follow a lesbian love affair as revolution erupts around and within her.

Set in the 2019 Lebanese revolution, luxx considers the responsibility of mixed heritage diaspora in times of insurrection. Meanwhile, drawing on old tales such as Majnun Layla, the poet re-imagines her gender and capacity for love amid gentleness and fury. Fetch Your Mother’s Heart ultimately grasps for what is beyond our reach.

This will be a live reading from the poet with Q&A hosted by editor Joelle Taylor, plus a a live musical performance from oud player Kareem Samara.
