Many of you will know of Ustad Shahbaz Hussain; not just the UK’s leading tabla master, but globally recognized as an authority on the Delhi and Panjab Gharana (musical dynasties). Since the age of 5 and via an exceptional crop of Ustad’s (musical masters) he has become one of the leading table virtuoso’s of his generation.

Shahbaz Hussain performs all over the world and is much sought after for his accompaniment skills by many of the great master musicians of India & Pakistan – including Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Ustad Rais Khan, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia and ghazal legend Ghulam Ali to name but a few.

Shahbaz Hussain will be on stage with what we at QalandarArts think is London’s best kept secret; Zayn Mohammed. An incredible multi-instrumentalist, composer and guitarist who  really knows no musical boundaries. (A small montage of Zayn across his instruments). Born in London he was playing flamenco by the age of 3. By the age of 9 he was performing flamenco nationally. Age 12 he appeared on live television playing the music of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai.

Zayn has immersed himself and trained in various musical styles; in addition to Flamenco, Indian Classical, Turkish Classical and highly influenced by his Godfather, living legend jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal (Miles Davis’ biggest inspiration) – he went on to study jazz guitar performance at the renowned Berklee College of music, Boston USA.In 2016 he was crowned Sky Arts Guitar Star, receiving praise from his mentor, multi-grammy award winner George Benson, saying of Zayn “He shows what guitar is all about, he’s truly a star.”

Zayn has expanded his guitar training and repertoire to incorporate a wide array of world instruments from Oud (Middle Eastern Lute), Sarod (Indian plucked stringed instrument), Ney (Turkish Reed Flute), to Frame Drum, Rebab and many more. He has performed alongside artists such as Wayne Shorter, Lee Ritenour, Nitin Sawhney, Lianne La Havas, Robert Mitchell, and many more.

The two artists combined will take you through a musical journey touching south Asian classical and the Sufi orient of Turkey and North Africa.
