With performances from:

Tara Salahi, representing the emerging wave of Iranian female singer-songwriters, persists in creating and performing despite the constraints in Iran. Her musical journey spans diverse genres, ranging from opera to rock and alternative rock, both as a solo artist and within various ensembles. In her upcoming performance, she’ll showcase a medley of melodies and folk songs from Iran’s provinces, including Gilaki, Azeri, Kurdish, and Farsi.

The second act features Sanam Maroufkhani, an Iranian independent singer-songwriter based in Amsterdam, accompanied by her ensemble, Sanam Trio, with Lotte Sarah on bass and Lotte van de Merwe on drums. Sanam’s music is characterized by its lyrical nature, drawing inspiration from her observations of world affairs and personal narratives. This lends her music a unique and personal touch, often infused with social themes. Her artistic journey is driven by a profound desire to blend her eastern musical influences with the approaches of Western songwriting and composition in the scene of alternative pop.

Makan Ashgvari is a singer, songwriter, actor, director, art manager, and teacher in Tehran, Iran. He has collaborated with various artists and bands like Naima, Kamakan, Pallet, Bomrani, and Kingraam. He has released two solo albums, Hejdah and To Trucks, and two albums with guitarist Amir Saremi. He was the main vocalist for Naima Band’s album Tehran’s Shore and the art director for Kamakan’s first album. His song Bad Boro has been widely praised and covered by many musicians. His performance will be accompanied by visuals from Hamid Shavarean, an art and creative director with an emphasis on design for digital media.

The night ends with Stereotype‘s performance, a story of defiance against social and emotional barriers through music. Iranian musicians Meshcut and Xeen blend grief and hope in their latest EP Code, born from their journey from Tehran to Paris. Meshcut’s vocals pierce through pulsating beats, reflecting defiance, while Code mirrors their emotional turmoil amid political pressure. Stereotype challenges stereotypes; their performances immerse audiences in dystopian soundscapes, resonating with survival.
