Here at Rich Mix we’re pleased to offer some refuge from the rain and keep you entertained with our roster of new releases, a film festival and our £6 ticket offer still going strong.

First up, we have the highly anticipated film adaptation of Lin Manuel Miranda’s Broadway musical In The Heights, directed by John M Chu (Crazy Rich Asians) and starring Anthony Ramos (She’s Gotta Have it) and Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton). The vibrant, foot-tapping musical is based in Washington Heights, New York City and focuses on the Latinx community within it. In The Heights falls in line with many great New York musicals, such as West Side Story, New York, New York, Annie and nearly anything by Stephen Sondheim, in magnifying an intimate and often uncovered community that makes up one of the many cogs in the city’s great machine. The Guardian’s four star review of In The Heights describes the film as a socially engaged ‘blast of sunshine’ – we say, it’s great viewing to kick off the summer solstice. 

Stanley Tucci and Colin Firth grace our screens this month in the deeply moving Supernova, a story of a couple travelling across the UK to reunite with friends and family one last time whilst one of them comes to terms with early onset dementia. An incredibly warm and heartbreaking film with knockout performances from both Tucci and Firth that aren’t to be missed, Supernova explores what it truly means to give a long goodbye.

Also coming up, we’re excited to be hosting the Bagri Foundation London Indian Film Festival. David Attwood’s Wild West follows struggling London musician Zaf (Naveen Andrews) failing to make it as a guitar-playing singer until his luck changes and he ends up on a wild trip to Nashville. The rest of the line up include the documentaries Bread & Belonging and the Tamil family drama Koozhangal.

And of course, the film popcorn lovers have been waiting for: Fast and Furious 9! The high octane ninth instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise is finally here, with promises of outer space adventures and of course, fast cars.
