Reimagining Rich Mix is all about making the most of our building and giving people more ways to connect with us. We want our building to be as inclusive and vibrant as we are, with an inviting welcome, sociable spaces, and places for creative chatter and collaboration – a meeting point for the cultures and communities of East London and beyond.

We want to:

  • improve facilities for artists and communities who perform and participate with us
  • create a welcoming and open building, improving access
  • ensure our future sustainability by addressing building, mechanical and electrical issues that come with an older building
  • upgrade our eating, drinking and performance spaces

Our first phase saw the redevelopment of parts of our first floor, with a new Cinema Bar, new dedicated Creative Engagement space, The Lab, new artist Green Room and a visual arts gallery space. Find out more about the first phase of Reimagining Rich Mix.

This next phase will focus on improving the welcome and accessibility of our ground floor and offer more inspiring opportunities for curated arts, learning, collaboration and conversation. This support from Arts Council England’s capital investment fund sets us on our path, as we continue to raise the remaining funding.

We are grateful to Arts Council England for this lead gift to realise our vision for Rich Mix. We know our building lets us down in many ways, and we want to change that. We want to develop Rich Mix as a hub – where people can mingle, hang out, experience art and fill its corners with creative chatter – and crucially where communities can feel comfortable. This is an exciting time and we look forward to sharing more plans in the coming months
