Directed by founder, composer and South African trumpeter Claude Deppa, the group celebrate the spirit of horns in jazz and especially South African horns legends like Dudu Pukwana and Hugh Masekela.
In their first concert in 20-years the 15-piece Horns Unlimited will deliver an Afro-jazz and soul-funk concoction that throws in a little reggae and salsa for good measure.
Claude Deppa was part of the second wave of South African jazz immigrants in the late ’70s and, since then, he’s worked with the likes of Dudu Puwana, Art Blakey, Archie Shepp and Fela Kuti. He is also famous for his work with the Brotherhood of Breath, Carla Bley, In Co-Motion, The African Jazz Allstars, 30 years with Grand Union Orchestra and Kinetika Bloco.
