Rich Mix is many things to different people, we are a charity, we are a social enterprise, we are a cinema, we are an arts centre, we are home to over 20 creative businesses… and we have a programme of free workshops for our local community so that no matter who you are, you can Take Part.
Over this pandemic we are working hard to remain open, be that digitally or (where government guidelines permit), with socially distant cinema screenings, events and creative learning activities.
Thanks to you and your input over the past few months we’ve come up with a programme that is shaped to reflect what you have told us is important to you. We love hearing from you – keep in touch, and we will continue to facilitate these conversations in the future.
We want to nurture the next generation of artists. We want to continue to come together through creativity and shared experiences. We want to provide some joy to help us through feelings of isolation and loss.

Our Take Part programme offers a wide range of creative education and wellbeing events responding to local needs from discussions with our communities we held this summer (take a look below at some of the incredible community programmes we’ve got coming up).
We believe in art and creativity as a transformational force for good, and we want to people to feel a sense of community and togetherness, even if there are times when we can’t meet in person.
That’s why we’re asking for support in creating and delivering Take Part. With your help we can build on our programme, offering even more sessions, and reaching even more people.

Highlights from the Take Part programme
Black History School from Humblebee Creative
A new creative curriculum for children and families of Black heritage in Tower Hamlets and across the UK, to learn about history through play.
Everyone A Maker – arts activities for the whole family
With something for everyone, our Everyone a Maker programme is focused on creating opportunities where children and parents alike can engage in activities that will inspire and educate, whilst also being fun.
Illuminate – Shining a light on memories of the East End for over 60s
A series of workshops for people over 60, in which artist Martin Richman will explore memories from older generations. Martin will create a light installation from these memories, under the title of ‘Illuminate’.
In Focus – creative photography and philosophy course
In Focus is a 6-week creative photography and philosophy course, for Muslim and non-Muslim women, where we use philosophical thinking to explore big questions together that have no straight-forward answers. Personal and shared views, experiences and memories will inspire collages, weaving together photography and words, to be showcased in a public exhibition (watch this space).
Our flagship Pic ’n’ Mix Film Education programme supports the next generation of filmmakers by working with teachers and children to create their own films. We will have the films from 2019/20 to share soon. In 2020/21 the theme for Pic ‘n’ Mix will be ‘My Story, our Story’. With an emphasis on literacy and storytelling, children will perform, act and speak on screen, creating films on their individual and collective experience of recent times.
A programme for 16-18 year olds based in Tower Hamlets who are interested in working in the creative industries – kicking off with a podcast series (watch this space).
‘Sinmi’ – a sensory journey of respite from All Purpose
An immersive experience to provide the Black community with some respite following the recent traction of the Black Lives Matter movement and the current pandemic.
StoryPlay – storytelling through play for 2-5 year olds
StoryPlay is aimed at dads, mum, friends and carers with children aged 2-5. Diana Redgrave leads sessions in puppetry, craft and stories to encourage families to bond, talk, grow and play in an exciting and creative way. Priority is given to family living Tower Hamlets.
A bespoke self-care programme led by mental health and wellbeing experts to help participants not only cope with these challenging times but thrive.
A creative development and wellbeing programme for East London’s young men.
